All child minders need to be registered with the appropriate government regulatory body. Your local council should hold more information about registers. All childminders have to complete a - basic registration course
- first aid training
When registered, a childminders home is inspected to ensure the child’s safety needs are met, references are taken, qualifications and training is checked and most importantly a police record and health check is done. In addition to the basic training, some childminders may hold other qualifications such at NVQ in early years care or education. Childminders can come from a variety of backgrounds; they may also have excellent training from previous employment such as teaching, nursing or foster care or they may be a parent themselves. The best way to find a good childminder is via a good recommendation. Ensure you have asked all the questions you need and that they are answered satisfactorily and visit/inspect the childminders home/premises yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask the parents of the children who are already in that Childminders care, what they think of the service provision.
